Over the past two years #EdChatRI has been a powerful PLN, and it has offered quality PD each and every week. Since coming online in April 2012, we have been able to bring high quality educators together for a weekly one hour discussion about various topics of educational relevance and interest to the work we all are doing. We have heard from educators all across the United States and even throughout the world. We have heard from educators new to the profession to veterans who have worked for over 40 years in the field of education and from student teachers right up to the Commissioner of Education for the state of Rhode Island. We all have different perspectives and ideas to share, that help us to grow and improve the extremely vital work that we do at all levels.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be taking #EdChatRI to the next level by having guest moderators on that are truly innovators and knowledge bearers in various realms of academia:
This Sunday night 3/23 we will be joined by a superstar in the field of education today, Dave Burgess(@burgessdave)
Dave Burgess is a highly sought after professional development speaker well known for his creative, entertaining, and outrageously energetic style. His workshops, seminars, and keynotes not only motivate and inspire teachers, but also help them to develop practical ways to become more creative and engaging in the classroom. He is the New York Times Best-Selling author of Teach Like A PIRATE: Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity, and Transform Your Life as an Educator. http://amzn.to/1ibtHqt
Dave is also a U.S. History teacher at West Hills High School in San Diego and a semi-professional magician specializing in stand-up comedy magic. He was a 2001 and 2012 Golden Apple recipient in the Grossmont Union High School District and the 2007/2008 Teacher of the Year at West Hills. He has been voted a faculty standout for seventeen consecutive years in categories such as: Most Entertaining, Most Energetic, and Most Dramatic. He specializes in teaching hard-to-reach, hard-to-motivate students with techniques that incorporate showmanship and creativity.
Whether it is through the strategies laid out in the book, or one of Dave's powerful workshops, which are a unique blend of outrageously energetic performance art and magic, mixed with an inspirational message of how and why to become more passionate in the classroom. You will be able to learn how to: Teach Like a PIRATE: Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity, and Transform Your Life as an Educator.
Next Sunday 3/30, we will close out the month of March with a friend and fellow educator from over the border in Canada, Tom Hierck.(@thierck) http://tomhierck.com/
Tom has been an educator since 1983 in a career that has spanned all grade levels and roles in public education. His experiences as a teacher, administrator, district leader, department of education project leader, and executive director have provided a unique context for his education philosophy.
Tom has presented to schools and districts across North America with a message of celebration for educators seeking to make a difference in the lives of students. His dynamic presentations explore the importance of positive learning environments and the role of assessment to improve student learning.
The part I like most about Tom, is his belief that “every student is a success story waiting to be told” has led him to work with teachers and administrators to create positive school cultures and build effective relationships that facilitate learning for all students.
On Sunday night 3/30, Tom will be giving us an inside look into a book he will be co-authoring with Ken Williams on Authentic Alignment. We will get a chance to see and hear about the ideas Tom and Ken have created around Authentic Assessment, before it even hits the stands.
Where else would you have the opportunity to hear from cutting edge educational experts, authors and presenters from the comfort of your own home, then right here on #EdChatRI. Join us each and every Sunday night at 8 PM as we push the envelop on Professional Development and allow technology to help take us places we never would have been able to go before.
Join us each and every Sunday night as we take out learning to the next level.
