As we start the new school year one of the main areas of focus that we should have for our students and our school is how are we raising the rigor. One of the main expectations set forth by the Common Core State Standards is on increasing the difficulty and expectations for our students, but how exactly do we do that.
What is academic rigor anyhow, the term has been used often as of late, but what is it really and if we truly understand it's meaning what are we doing as educators to increase it. Did we do any work in preparation for the start of the year to set these higher expectations. Is raising the academic rigor all about the amount of homework we are giving our students,or is it about the type of work we are assigning. Is raising the rigor about asking all DOK 3 and 4 questions in class or is it about the way in which we ask questions and the types of answers we accept. Is it about delivering more rigorous instruction or is it about creating a learning environment where students are doing the majority of the work and having great discussions.
Join us Sunday night at 8 PM on #edchatri as we look at how to "Raise the Rigor" in education.
