In advance of the RIDE Powered By Technology Conference next Saturday in Providence, we have decided to dedicate this week's topic to Developing a Culture of Innovation.
What exactly does the word innovation mean? Is it technology, is it teaching strategies or is it just doing something new and different; something you have never tried before. In today's educational environment, it is imperative that we look to a vast array of ways in which we can become innovative, ways in which we can better engage our students in the learning process and better prepare them for the unknown future, whatever it may be.
What would a truly innovative school look like, how would the classrooms be set up, what would the instruction look like and how would technology play a role. Join us on Sunday night at 8 PM for #edchatri as we look at these questions and more and we determine what it takes to develope a Culture of Innovation.
The long weekend is here and many of us are heading out to a variety of events. Some of us will be seeing family and friends that we may not have seen for a while. I therefore offer a challenge to all of you. I recently saw a Prince Ea video that a friend of mine posted and ironically, I saw it via social media, but the message it sends is very different. Ultimately, however the choice is ours and for this weekend, I will choose to leave Social media behind and spend all of my time with my family. As we go to a two day soccer tournament in New Hampshire I will choose to be completely present and enjoy these precious moments we have together, because as we all know they go too fast. I can hardly believe that my baby girl is 9 years old and we have added three other children as well. For those of you out there with children I don't have to tell you how fast it goes.
So here is the challenge, disconnect for the weekend. I realize that many of us have jobs that won't let us completely do that. However if we make a concerted effort to step away from social media and reconnect with those that we live with and love each and every day, we may be better of for it. With that being said, there will not be an #EdChatRI this Sunday as Alan and I will both be away and enjoying time with family and friends. I hope you accept the challenge and you enjoy the long weekend. We will see you next Sunday.
